Sir Elton John’s emotional tribute to mum, 92, after ‘perfect’ private funeral
Superstar thanks Shelia Farebrother for 'bringing him into the world' after she is laid to rest in family chapel
SIR Elton John has shared a poignant tribute to his late mother after she was laid to rest this morning - thanking her for “bringing him into the world”.
Superstar Elton described her funeral, that took place earlier today at the family chapel, as “perfect”.
In a touching Instagram post that accompanied a snap showing the coffin plaque, he wrote: “Dear Mum, Today’s funeral was perfect.
“Having the service in the family chapel and attended by your brother and sister brought us all comfort.
“Having the service where Nan lived out her final days brought you and your Mother back together again.
“Tomorrow your friends will gather separately to say their good byes.
“I’ve chosen all the music so everything will be just right.
“Thank-you for bringing me into the world and for all that you have done for me.
“Love. Elton #RIP.”
Elton and Sheila fell out for nearly a decade over his husband David Furnish.
She once described the American as “that f***ing thing”.
But they started to patch things up after her 90th birthday — for which she hired a Sir Elton lookalike.
Sheila is understood to have met grandsons Zachary, six, and Elijah, four, earlier this year.
After learning of her death in December the 70-year-old musician tweeted: "So sad to say that my mother passed away this morning.
"I only saw her last Monday and I am in shock.
"Travel safe Mum. Thank you for everything. I will miss you so much. Love, Elton."
Sir Elton revealed in May that he and his mother were “back in touch” after his brush with death when a bacterial infection left him in intensive care in Chile.
Tensions between Sheila and his husband David mounted for years before mother and son stopped talking in 2008.

Sheila had been invited to be the official witness at the couple’s civil partnership in 2005, but was told she could not appear in any of the photos because she refused to wear a hat.
She and Sir Elton stopped talking entirely in 2008 when he demanded she cut off communication with two of their oldest friends — Bob Halley and John Reid.
But Sir Elton reached out to heal the rift before Sheila’s 90th birthday in 2015. They started to see one another again properly in May. He posted a picture of the two of them together with the caption: “Dear Mum, Happy Mother’s Day! So happy we are back in touch. Love, Elton xo.”
