Vandals cover cars parked in residential street near Liverpool John Lennon airport with graffiti and signs saying ‘this is not a car park’
Locals have become fed up with passengers using their streets as free airport parking
A MYSTERY vandal daubed white paint on cars in residential streets close to an airport - with a sign warning: "This is not a car park".
Cops are investigating the alleged criminal damage after a local apparently got fed up of passengers using the roads as free parking while on holiday.
A number of cars could be seen today with white lines painted on the windscreen, bonnet, side panels and boot in Hale Road and Western Road in Speke, close to Liverpool John Lennon Airport.
A poster had been slapped on one car window reading: "This is not a car park for the airport."
Residents have revealed the area has been troubled with airport users filling up spaces on the roads for years.
One said: "We don't know who has done this but I think it is a sign people have just had enough.
"We are sick and tired of people - often foreigners - ditching their cars outside our homes and businesses.
"It is inconvenient as they can be just left for days and weeks.
"I've heard it has got so bad that the airport car park has seen a drop in the numbers of cars being parked.
"The cars clutter up our area and it is so bad that people aren't coming to the local shops as they can't find anywhere close to leave the cars."
Locals have also complained about the parking on social media groups.
Police are investigating after motorists returned from Christmas and New Year breaks to find their cars had been vandalised.
A number of spray-painted cars remained in the area this evening, suggesting the owners had not returned from their holidays.
Inspector Andy Wignall said: 'Merseyside Police was contacted at 2pm on Monday to a report of criminal damage to a Citroen DS3 car parked on Western Avenue in Speke.
"It is believed that between 5am and 1pm that day unknown offenders sprayed white paint on the car.
"A number of other cars in the area appear to have been damaged although at this stage we have only received one damage report.
"This behaviour will not be tolerated and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed anything or has any information about the damage to contact Merseyside Police or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."

Another firm operating at Heathrow dumped luxury motors in a boggy field surrounded by horses.
