‘UNFIT LEADER’

Donald Trump’s mental health questioned as explosive Michael Wolff book claims he repeats stories ‘word-for-word’ within minutes and doesn’t read

THE White House has slammed speculation around Donald Trump's mental state after claims surfaced that his former right hand man openly said "he's lost his stuff".

Steve Bannon, Trump's former chief strategist, is claimed to have said the 71-year-old US leader would repeat himself and was viewed by some as "semi-literate", Michael Wolff's controversial book reported.

But press secretary Sarah Sanders hit back at the claims of the book, which will now be released four days early, saying they were "disgraceful and laughable".

Praising Trump as an "incredibly strong" leader, she said: "If he was unfit, he probably wouldn't be sitting there, wouldn't have defeated the most qualified group of candidates the Republican Party has ever seen."

It comes after author Michael Wolff claimed in an essay for the that Trump often repeats stories word for word in a matter of 10 minutes, and that he was increasingly forgetful.

He also claimed that the US President didn't read.

Despite Donald Trump's best efforts to block the publication of the book, which claims that he sits in bed eating cheeseburgers, it will now be released on Friday.

Sensational excerpts from Michael Wolff's Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House have been drip-fed into media and contain unflattering insights into Trump’s administration ahead of its release.

Hard-hitting Californian attorney Charles J. Harder has already issued a cease and desist letter against publisher Henry Holt and Co. - while also asking for a copy for themselves.

Wolff's book is reportedly based on 200 interviews with White House staffers and members of Trump's election campaign team, including Steve Bannon.

The litany of bombshell claims in the book include that First Lady Melania "cried" when Trump won the election.

Other claims within the book include that Trump and his campaign team "didn't actually want to win the election" and that the President "eats cheeseburgers in bed while watching three TVs at once".

It also claimed that Trumps' daughter Ivanka was referred to as his real wife - and that Melania was barely present in the West Wing.

It comes after the White House was forced to deny Donald Trump had dementia after he slurred and stuttered during a speech.

The president appeared to say "God bless the United Schtates" as he drew his speech to a close, sparking concerns for his health.

Saran Sanders slammed the speculation, saying he would go through a full medical exam in the first part of this year.
