Victims say black cab rapist John Worboys tricked his way out of jail and want cases re-opened

Women attacked by sex-fiend cabbie, Worboys, want cops to reopen the investigation and put him back behind bars

VICTIMS of serial sex attacker John Worboys yesterday claimed he fooled the Parole Board into freeing him.

They want cops to reopen the investigation and put him back behind bars amid fears he preyed on up to 200 women.

Victims are also outraged that detectives told them the monster’s indeterminate sentence — for 19 offences in 2009 — was better than a life term.

They say they were assured Worboys would almost certainly be ruled unfit for release after serving his minimum tariff of eight years.

But the former London cabbie will now be free in weeks following Thursday’s controversial announcement.

Lawyer Richard Scorer, who represented 11 victims who sued Worboys after his conviction, said the fiend had “played a game” with the Parole Board.

Mr Scorer added: “He is an extremely devious and manipulative individual. Although we don’t know the logic behind the board’s decision we are very concerned that he has gamed them — fooled them into believing he is no longer a threat.”

Mr Scorer added: “Worboys continued to deny the offences for many years after he was convicted.

“The Parole Board must reveal whether he has finally admitted his crimes and shown any remorse. If he still denies his crimes, then he clearly poses a continuing risk to women.”

Mr Scorer, from law firm Slater Gordon, said Worboys even tried to manipulate a female colleague who went to see him in jail.

He said: “He was trying to talk her round to believing that he was a nice guy and that he would be reasonable with our clients. He’s a thoroughly nasty piece of work.”

The Sun can reveal police told victims not to be concerned with the short sentence Worboys received.

Officers told victims that life sentences were often reduced, but the indeterminate sentence of imprisonment for public protection would mean he would be reassessed after eight years with no hope of release.

Given Worboys’ crimes were spread over more than half a decade — and because he showed no remorse in court — the authorities assured victims he would be ruled unfit for release.

One victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, said: “For the parole board to find Worboys safe to release after such a short time is shocking.

“Not least because they won’t tell us why. We need transparency as a matter of urgency.

“What do the Parole Board know, that we don’t, that means Worboys is no longer considered a serious danger to women?”

Some victims have asked police to reconsider other cases involving Worboys, of Rotherhithe, South East London. Mr Scorer said: “He was only prosecuted for a fraction of his crimes, so we absolutely support the reopening of the investigation.

“A lot of victims are very frustrated. They would support any measure that can be taken to ensure he gets the proper sentence for the crimes we believe he committed.

“If he has admitted what he has done to the Parole Board, he has admitted he had a modus operandi of specifically targeting, drugging and raping women.

“Surely that has got to be relevant in looking at what other offences he can be prosecuted for?” Last night the Met Police said no new information had been received about Worboys and no investigation had started.

Parole Board chairman Nick Hardwick said hearing the decision must have been “horrible” for the women, but the board was confident Worboys would not reoffend.

He said the case was handled by an experienced panel which would have considered a huge dossier of evidence and witness statements.

He apologised for not informing victims about his release before the details became public.

Prof Hardwick will be called before the Commons Justice Committee to explain how the decision was reached.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan urged the Parole Board to reconsider its decision.

ONE ATTACK, 11 YEARS

A RAPIST who posed as a taxi driver has been jailed for 11½ years for one attack — while serial sex beast Worboys was freed after just eight years of an indeterminate sentence.

Marius Dolhascanu, 41, would deck out his BMW to look like a  cab and wait in Hindley town centre, near Wigan.

In May 2016 a 30-year-old woman saw the Romanian and, thinking he was a taxi, asked him to drive her home.

But instead he drove her to a different address where he raped her before dumping her in the street and driving off.

Dolhascanu, of Wigan, denied rape at Bolton crown court but was found guilty by a jury.
