New Banksy artwork appears on Hull drawbridge as some call for it to be CLEANED OFF

ELUSIVE graffiti artist Banksy is behind a new artwork on a drawbridge in Hull - but locals are calling for it to be wiped clean.

The anonymous artist confirmed in an Instagram post the mural was his latest work by sharing a picture of it to his two million followers.

It shows a young boy wearing a helmet and cape alongside the words: "Draw the raised bridge".

Stunned locals first spotted the artwork, which is believed to hold an anti-Brexit message, on Thursday.

But councillors are calling for the mural to be cleaned off - although they admit it is "mindbogglingly brilliant".

Hull Cllr. John Abbott said: "It should be cleaned off and then photographed and kept, as Banksy is not a man without talent."

Social media users have been sharing photos of the piece after it appeared on Scott Street Bridge.

One Instagram user said: "Thank you for inspiring us all", while others praised Banksy as a "genius".

Banksy first burst into prominence in the early 90s as a graffiti artist whose works highlighted corruption and inequality in society.

His work was spotted around the south of England, including in London, Brighton and Bristol.

He has never been unmasked, and it is believed his refusal to reveal himself started as a way of avoiding prosecution for vandalism.
