A PRISON worker who tried to smuggle a huge haul of phones and drugs to lags was tackled to the ground by the 6ft 7in deputy governor.

The man was queuing to get in when he was challenged about his heavy holdall. He was chased down by the jail boss as he sprinted off.

The bag is said to have contained 20 phones.

There were also chargers and SIM cards — plus drugs suspected of being cannabis and spice.

The haul at London’s Wandsworth jail was estimated to be worth £100,000 on the prison black market.

A source said: “It was one of the biggest individual seizures in recent prison history.”

A man aged 26 was arrested.
