BRITAIN will have no choice but to accept all EU laws during the post-Brexit transition period, claims Brussels chief negotiator Michel Barnier.

And remaining nations bragged about adopting the set of guidelines in just two minutes - which will force Britain to abide by rules but have no say in them.

Mr Barnier's deputy Sabine Weyand said the UK will get "status quo transition without institutional representation" for 21 months after the end of Article 50.

What this means is that we will not get a vote on any new regulations during this period, in a move which will anger Brexiteers.

After a meeting of the remaining 27 nations Mr Barnier told a news conference: "During this period all decisions will apply and the UK must know this rule, and accept it from the start.

"It will continue to have all the economic benefits, therefore it must apply all the rules.”

He also stressed that Britain would have no decision-making power in the EU during the transition, which the bloc wants to run for 21 months - from March 29, 2019, when Britain leaves, until the end of 2020.

Mr Barnier also said the UK would only be able to attend meetings on a "limited, exceptional, case by case basis".

His comments come as the UK and the EU get ready to get back round the negotiating table to move on to the second phase, including the transition arrangements and a potential free trade agreement.

Mr Barnier said: "It is very important that the UK voices its position on what it wants in this future relationship.”

Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva said after the meeting: “EU ministers have given a clear mandate to the Commission on what is the type of transition period that we envisage: full EU acquis to be applied in the UK and no participation in the EU institutions and decision-making.

“The 27 adopted the text speedily today and we hope an agreement on this with the UK can also be closed swiftly.”

Her comments were echoed by various ministers from across the continent, who warned Britain it cannot expect to have a say in EU decision-making once it leaves, including during the transition period.

Swedish EU Affairs and Trade Minister Ann Linde told reporters in Brussels: "When you have left the European Union you have left, and this is just a transition to a new arrangement.”

And the Irish European Affairs Minister Helen McEntee said that "what we cannot have is a position where the integrity of the single market, the customs union, is in any way undermined."

She added: "When the UK leaves the European Union they will not be a voice around the table.”

This has already raised concern in Britain, with David Davis, demanding last week "a way of resolving concerns if laws are deemed to run contrary to our interests and we have not had our say."

The Brexit secretary said: "It's very, very important that if there are new laws that affect us, we have the means to resolve any issues during that period."
