Fifth Cabinet minister gives backing to The Sun’s campaign for commemorative Brexit stamps
Welsh Secretary Alun Cairns is the fifth Cabinet minister to join The Sun's call for the Royal Mail to issue a set of stamps marking Britain's exit from the European Union
WELSH Secretary Alun Cairns has become the fifth Cabinet Minister to back The Sun’s campaign for Brexit stamps - as he branded it an “ingenious” idea.
He joins Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, Environment Secretary Michael Gove, Trade chief Liam Fox and Commons Leader Andrea Leadsom who have all thrown their weight behind the bid.
Yesterday he urged the Royal Mail to change their minds and issue a set to commemorate Britain leaving the EU.
He declared: “What better way to mark our exit from the European Union - undoubtedly a historic moment for our country that should be suitably recognised.
“This light hearted and ingenious idea gets my stamp of approval.”
Earlier this month Ms Leadsom slammed the Royal Mail for not believing Brexit was an event worth recognising.
She called it an “excellent idea” and said there was “no reason” not to do it.
International Trade Secretary Liam Fox branded our campaign a “first class idea”.
And Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson called on mail chiefs to “deliver a stamp that shows the world we’ve got Brexit licked”.
The Environment Secretary said Royal Mail marked Britain’s entry into the EU and “it’s only right they mark the choice to leave”.

The Royal Mail issues roughly one set of stamps a month, most recently featuring Game of Thrones, Pink Floyd and wild flowers.
But they say they have no plans to “issue a stamp to mark the EU exit.”
They have previously claimed the day is not an “important anniversary”.
