Richard Hammond has ‘memory like a sieve due to car crashes’, claims The Grand Tour co-host Jeremy Clarkson

JEREMY CLARKSON has joked his pal Richard Hammond has “no capacity” to remember anything – and blames stunts gone wrong for his poor memory.

The Grand Tour co-host Clarkson says Hamster’s memory is like a sieve, but it hasn’t put the car-mad presenter off stunts.

Clarkson quipped : “You can tell him something and five seconds later it is gone out of his head.

“Well, it is not his fault, it is because he cannot drive and he went upside down and damaged his brain.

“He has no capacity for remembering anything and some of it is because he is not interested in anything and some of it is because he has had brain damage.”

Richard has cheated death twice after having two horror crashes.

On September 20, 2006, Richard suffered serious head injuries after a jet-powered car spun out of control at 288mph while filming extra footage for Top Gear.

He was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary’s neurological unit where he remained in a coma for two weeks.

It was touch and go on whether he would survive.

Richard revealed that because of his brain injury he has suffered memory loss, depression and sometimes finds it hard to “connect emotionally”.

He fractured his knee.

At the time of the crash, Clarkson said: “It was the biggest crash I’ve ever seen and the most frightening but incredibly, and thankfully, Richard seems to be mostly OK.”

During filming for the trio’s latest Mozambique Special, Richard was injured when he came off a motorbike he was riding.

The 47-year-old was knocked out after falling from the bike and hitting his head.
