The irony is that these cowardly cretins hiding behind masks think Rees-Mogg is a latter-day Hitler.

After playing peacemaker, he looks more like Gandhi.

But Friday’s scuffle is nothing compared to the sickening abuse that is dished out on social media — usually directed at women.

The PM is right to introduce tighter rules to crack down on the intimidation and aggression that is infecting our politics.

It’s clear that social media companies won’t do it.

Like those over-excited activists playing dress-up in Bristol, most of the trolls seem to be Corbynista cranks — and that’s hardly surprising.

After all, the Shadow Chancellor has called for “direct action” against Conservative MPs, joked about “lynching” his opponents and describes violent protesters as the “best” of the Labour movement.

Party bigwigs turn a blind eye to intimidation, anti-Semitism and sexism, which got so bad this week that a well-respected Labour Council leader resigned.
