Ten terrorist plots have been foiled by police in the last year, Scotland Yard boss reveals
Cressida Dick said there have been ten unsuccessful extremist attacks planned since March 2017
TERROR police have foiled ten extremist plots against Britain in the past year, the head of Scotland Yard revealed today.
Since the attack on Westminster in March 2017 there have been four more terror assaults - and a further ten planned attacks which were stopped by police.
Cressida Dick, the Metropolitan Police commissioner, told LBC: "It’s ten since March last year, so that’s ten lethal, murderous attacks that people intended to carry out we say, which have been stopped by the fantastic work of the intelligence agencies and the police."
She also suggested the fight against terror would be hurt by a £54million shortfall in funding.
Counter-terror bosses applied for an extra £104million from the Home Office, but were only granted £50million.
Ms Dick said: "We all know the threat has gone up, we all know that the teams are working incredibly hard and that there is an enormous amount of work to do."
"If we got very, very, very much less than we asked for it makes it harder, of course it makes it harder. But the Government have their job to do and I respect that, and my colleagues respect it as well.
"There may well be room for us in the coming months to put in a further bid and that is absolutely what we will be doing if there is that room to do so.
"Meanwhile we have got some extra resources and we are building up the capability of the [counter] terrorist teams."
The Met boss expressed sympathy with victims of rapist cabbie John Worboys - and vowed to protect them if he is released to live in London.
Ms Dick said: "There are people arriving back from prison very, very regularly into London streets. If we end up having to that we will do the job to the very, very best of our ability.
