James Bulger’s dad blasts Jon Venables’ sentence and begs authorities to strip him of his new identity before he claims more victims
THE dad of murdered toddler James Bulger has pleaded with authorities to unmask his killer before he can claim any more victims.
Jon Venables and Robert Thompson were jailed in 1993 for the torture and murder of the two-year-old in Liverpool in 1993 when they were both just 10 years old.
The pair were given new identities and granted lifelong anonymity when they were freed on licence in 2001.
But Venables – now in his mid-30s – was today sent back to prison for three years and four months after admitting having more than 1,000 indecent images of children aged 6-13.
James’ distraught dad Ralph today blasted the sentence, branding it an “insult”.
Speaking outside court, he said: “40 months is a joke. It’s an insult to the family.”
He added: “We’ve got to watch this sexual deviant. We know what he’s capable of. He’s just waiting for another victim.
“Let’s make sure there are no more victims.”
Mr Bulger called for Venables’ secret new identity to be revealed for the safety of the public.
He said giving him lifelong anonymity was “a failed experiment” and claimed the authorities could not manage him in the community.

His solicitor Robin Makin said: “We are immensely concerned about the danger that Jon Venables would pose if he is released again.
“Due to his innate nature, there has to be a fundamental reassessment of the injunction order.
“It not only affects James’ family but the general public as well – and it involves astronomical amounts of money.
“It seems to be perfectly obvious that Jon Venables can’t cope living the lie and the authorities haven’t been able to manage him in the community.
“He’s already reverted to committing further offences and we have to wonder where this is going to lead.”
