‘SLAP IN THE FACE’

Meghan Markle said she ‘didn’t know her own half-brother Tom’ when he wrote her a note asking for help, he claims

MEGHAN Markle’s half brother has claimed she said "I don't know those people" when he begged her for help.

Tom Markle Jr wrote to congratulate the actress on her engagement to Prince Harry - but says the reply he got back through a lawyer was "a slap in the face".

Tom, 51, reckons his half-sister wants nothing to do with him because his recent brushes with the law are embarrassing to her.

He says he contacted her and royal officials last year for help dealing with false stories about him in the US press.

Tom : “My lawyer had a phone meeting with her lawyer, and he emailed me some of her direct words.

"She said, ‘That’s distant family and I don’t know those people.’ That’s pretty harsh.”

Tom, who shares a father with Meghan, says he has moved house three times after being hounded.

He says he wrote to congratulate Meghan when she and Harry announced their engagement in November but got no reply.

His note read: "I'm so proud of you, you're awesome.

"I'm truly sorry that my private life may have caused you embarrassment.

"I wish you and Harry all the best, you guys look amazing and happy together."

He also wanted Kensington Palace to help him seek retractions for stories he considered defamatory.

Tom Markle's own lawyer had warned him in October: "I don't think there will be any improvement with the media unless you talk to your sister."

He told the magazine: "There was a time where people were following me around at work, taking pictures and posting horrible stories about me and my family saying I'm a white supremacist, a drug addict and a dealer, all this crap that just isn't true."

But he claims the palace ignored his pleas for help.

Kensington Palace declined to comment on the claims today.

Tom was 14 and living with his dad Thomas Markle Snr and Meghan's mum Doria Ragland when she was born in 1981.

He says they "spent a lot of time together growing up" but admits they have not been in touch since she moved to Toronto in 2011 to take up a role in Suits.

Last year Tom was arrested for brandishing a gun at his lover during a drunken fight, although the charges were later dropped.

And on New Year's Eve Tom's fiancee Darlene Blount was thrown in jail for two days accused of assaulting him.

He later admitted the injuries were self-inflicted. The couple live in rural Oregon.

Last month Tom said: "It hasn't been easy. Meghan's relationship with Prince Harry has shone a spotlight on our family.

"It doesn't help when you have issues and your sister is engaged to Royalty. It adds a whole new level of scrutiny.

"We've been under a lot of stress because of all the attention. At some point you find yourself drinking too much to escape the pressure."

He is still hoping for an invitation to the wedding at Windsor castle on May 19.

Dad Thomas, 73, a former Hollywood lighting director, is expected to walk her up the aisle and will make a traditional father-of-the-bride speech.

Last month half-sister Samantha Grant, 52, blasted Meghan for allegedly failing to support their bankrupt father.

She said after the actress wore a £56,000 designer dress for her engagement photo: "If you can spend $75,000 on a dress, you can spend $75,000 on your dad."

Samantha, who once called Meghan "the pushy princess", also claimed her humanitarian work was "exploitative" and "feels like a photo opportunity".
