Now John, 55, and Sally, 54, - who were charged in June with terrorism-related offences last June for trying to send Jack money - have begged Canadian MPs to rescue him as he has dual British-Canadian citizenship.

In a letter seen by Canada's National Post newspaper they write: "We feel that our only hope for saving our son's life lies with securing the support of parliamentarians who believe in democracy and the rule of law rather than vigilante justice.

"Jack has stated publicly that, if released, he wants to spend the rest of his life 'bearing witness' against Isis."

The Brit reportedly went by the name Abu Mohammed and married an Iraqi woman with whom he has a son, Muhammed.

During his time in Syria, he posted snaps of himself holding weapons and claimed he narrowly survived a drone strike.

Speaking to a Canadian official in a recording, he revealed he had soiled himself as he didn’t have access to a toilet.

According to , he said: “Any place other than here is better… I can’t explain to you everything that’s happened.

“Honestly, if I explained to you how my situation was, you’d be surprised.

“I spent 35 days in a room that’s a bit taller than I am and about half that widthwise and no toilet.

“Tell my mum I’m sorry, tell my dad sorry. Tell them if I get out of this place, I’m going to try to be a better person.”
