JON Venables has a secret girlfriend who knows he murdered James Bulger and has convictions over child abuse images.

Officials warned the woman of the monster’s evil past as their relationship got serious — but she stood by him.

She was also home when cops found nearly 1,200 abuse images on a hidden laptop last November.

Yet sources say rather than ditching Venables after he was jailed for 40 months, she intends to visit her man in prison.

The woman does not have kids but is thought to have primary-age relatives. There is no suggestion Venables had unsupervised contact with them.

A source told The Sun on Sunday: “There is nothing to stop Venables dating, but when the relationship became serious officials had a duty to inform the woman about his past.

“That included full disclosure about his criminal history, including his role in murdering James Bulger.

“She must be the only woman in the world who’s blissfully happy to be dating the devil.”

Venables, now 35, was jailed this month after admitting possessing indecent images. It came five years after he was released from a two-year term for similar offences.

It is not known when he met the woman — whose identity we cannot reveal — but it is understood he was introduced using a second new name given in 2013.

Probation officers kept tabs on the couple, with the murderer quizzed during routine weekly monitoring visits at his home.

They are said to have asked Venables to disclose his real name and past to his partner as the relationship became long term.

He is understood to have come clean about how he and pal Robert Thompson abducted, tortured and murdered two-year-old James in Liverpool in 1993.

It is not known if she knew of his past when asked to move in. But they were an item when he began trawling the dark web last July, despite a ban on him using the internet.

There is no suggestion the girlfriend knew about his sordid activities.

She was with him when probation workers found a laptop stashed behind a headboard in his bedroom.

It contained 1,170 files of child abuse images and videos — including 392 photos in the worst category.

Venables also downloaded a 20-page so-called paedophile’s handbook and later admitted to using the dark web “for quite some time”.

As he sat in the police car after his arrest, Venables hinted at fears for his relationship. He told cops: “This is my own fault. I’ve let people down again.”

TWISTED LOVE

By Deidre Sanders, The Sun's Agony Aunt

IT is hard to understand why any woman would stand by Venables.

But some are attracted to notorious criminals, like those writing to cons on Death Row.

Venables’ partner may find some sort of twisted glamour in being with someone so infamous and knowing his secret identity. But it’s an unhealthy attraction and risks giving Venables the impression that his behaviour is in some away acceptable.
