KFC apologises over chicken shortage with cheeky ad – and Twitter LOVES it
KFC has won back fast food fans threatening to cross the road to other chicken shops - with a plucky apology.
The Colonel said sorry for the ongoing "KFC crisis" - which has seen more than 600 shops close due to chicken shortages - with a very cheeky advert in today's Sun.
The takeaway giant took out a full-page ad showing an empty bargain bucket with the usual "KFC" logo replaced by "FCK".
The ploy seems to have worked - as people flocked to social media to praise the under-fire firm.
Ashley Halliday wrote on Twitter: "Apology totally accepted @KFCUKI - Saying sorry means a lot in life."
Twitter user Miss Chibs said: "Possibly the best apology ad ever #lovingit #kfc."
Peter Storr tweeted: "Not a fan of KFC generally, but got to love their apology."
James Herry, who works in branding, tweeted: "Perfectly pitched apology ad from KFC."
The advert reads: "We're sorry.
"A chicken restaurant without any chicken. It's not ideal."
It apologises to customers who have travelled far to restaurants and been disappointed and thanks employees for "working tirelessly".
It says: "It's been a hell of a week but we're making progress, and every day more and more fresh chicken is being delivered to our restaurants.
"Thank you for bearing with us."
Disappointed fans complained on social media last Friday that a number of branches had unexpectedly closed.
It emerged hundreds more across Britain had been forced to shut their doors, including Newcastle, Suffolk, Surrey and Berkshire.
Staff put signs in the windows saying: “Sorry we’re closed …we’ve had a few hiccups with the delivery.”
Other shops remained open but took chicken off the menu.
A woman was filmed complaining that she was being forced to go to Burger King instead - and the video quickly went viral.
The burger chain jumped at the opportunity to score a few points over its fast food rival - and rewarded her with a year’s supply of free BK food.
The fast-food chain blamed a chicken shortage on teething problems with delivery firm DHL.
No date has been given for when things will return to normal, but some branches may stay closed until later this week.
KFC said: “The Colonel is working on it.”
