Former PM Sir John Major calls on Parliament to soften Theresa May’s plans for Brexit
The ex-Tory leader is set to issue a warning on how lengthy negotiations with EU chiefs have halted Britain's economy growth
SIR John Major will today deepen Theresa May’s woes by calling on Parliament to soften the PM’s Brexit plans.
The former Tory PM will also issue a warning about how protracted negotiations with Brussels have already suppressed Britain’s economic growth.
Speaking to tech leaders, aides said Sir John will “call on parliament to show leadership in the crucial months ahead”.
Sources added that he will “look at the impact the talks have had on UK economic growth and our standing around the world”.
Remain supporter Sir John’s latest intervention into the EU exit debate comes in a speech to the Creative Industries Federation.
Downing Street sources revealed the ex-party boss called Mrs May’s chief of staff Gavin Barwell to brief him on the broadside.
The ex-Premier also insisted on delaying his speech’s timing until after PMQs tomorrow so as not to embarrass Mrs May further.
