COPS are probing an anaesthetist over “multiple deaths” at his hospital.Consultant Dr Andy Gregg, 48, was arrested after NHS chiefs raised the alarm about two patients.
He is now being investigated by detectives over five more cases.
The General Medical Council is probing a further 11, but it is not known if any of those relate to patient deaths.
Dr Gregg, who “strenuously” denies the gross negligence manslaughter allegations against him, has been suspended by Peterborough City Hospital, Cambs, where he has worked since 2003.
Details of the case have not been made public but emerged at the High Court where Dr Gregg was fighting bosses from stopping his pay.

Dr Gregg was quizzed in December 2016 and arrested in March last year.
He was suspended two months later and has been bailed until June.
Court papers say the allegations “centre on whether he inappropriately hastened the death of patients in his care”.
Last night he told The Sun: “I am co-operating fully but will not be commenting further.”
