Man appears in court accused of seriously injuring a pensioner while dressed as a police officer

David Woods, 38, has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm without intent for allegedly knocking over an elderly man at a bus stop in Plymouth's city centre

A MAN is being held after allegedly seriously injuring a pensioner while dressed as a police officer.

David Woods, 38, is accused of breaking the 72-year-old’s hip at a bus stop. He was arrested at the scene and the pensioner is still being treated at Derriford Hospital.

Prosecutor Jenny Cater said Woods tackled the pensioner to the floor as he tried to get on to a bus.

Woods, of Plymouth, was charged with GBH without intent, possession of a firearm, possession of an axe and two knives, and impersonating a police officer.

He is also accused of possession of an air weapon in a public place. He did not enter a plea as he was remanded by JPs to appear at the city’s crown court today.
