Labour is calling for a tax on self-service checkouts for ‘robbing’ till workers of their jobs
The tax would be imposed to make up for the money lost on National Insurance payments and tax revenue
LABOUR Party members want to tax self-service checkouts as they rob till workers of their jobs.
They have called for the levy to replace lost tax revenue and National Insurance payments.
The motion was passed by constituency members in St Ives and it will be put to party officials and leader Jeremy Corbyn.
But it has already prompted one senior figure to resign after labelling the plan “bonkers”.

Tim Dwelly, Labour group leader at Cornwall Council, said: “Not only is it odd, but it illustrates how disconnected they are with what is important to people.”
He added: "Very strange things are being debated, such as this checkout tax idea, and it is almost comical."
"Why spend time on it? It is a complete irrelevance and nothing to do with anyone or anywhere."
