Russian spy Anna Chapman’s Brit ex-husband Alex Chapman died two years ago aged just 36
THE ex-husband of Russian spy Anna Chapman died at just 36 years old, it has been reported.
The family of British Alex Chapman have insisted his premature death was not suspicious.
A member of the family : "It was very distressing at the time, but he died from natural causes.
"There was nothing suspicious about his death. His father dealt with everything and it was very sad but I don't want to go into any further details."
The former public schoolboy died two years ago and was last listed as living in Bournemouth, Dorset.
His ex-wife, Anna, is considered a hero in her native country - the pair divorced in 2006.
She led a secret life among a group of spooks who tried to blend into American society in an apparent bid to get close to power brokers and learn secrets.
Her links to the West begun aged 19 during her time as an economics student at Moscow University.
Chapman, who was born Anna Kushchenko but retains her married name, travelled to London during her summer holidays.
It was then when she met public schoolboy Alex Chapman, who she married in 2002, at an underground rave party in London's Docklands
They were said to have a whirlwind romance and Alex described his wife as being "great in bed".
The woman who was tasked with seducing powerful figures in Washington DC "knew exactly what to do", according to her husband.
Eventually it was revealed Anna's father was Vasily Kushchenko, a former senior KGB agent.
When it emerged she had been spying Alex said "it wasn't that much of a surprise", adding it even made sense.
She has since been dubbed Russia's "most glamorous secret agent" and was one of ten spies exchanged for Sergei Skripal.
