SAINSBURY'S has installed new security for its self-service checkouts to catch out scamming shoppers.
The supermarket chain has fitted CCTV cameras and mirrors above the self check-outs at 300 of its stores in a bid to crack down on low-value thefts.
The measures come amid reports that shoppers are stealing a whopping £3billion a year from supermarkets using the self-scanning tills.
Two-fifths of people admitted they were light-fingered when it came to checking out goods.
But nearly two-thirds said they had not intended to steal but had not paid because the item wouldn't register.
Last year mum Kylie Milner carried out a bizarre self-service scam, stealing £2,700 worth of groceries before she was caught.
The 35-year-old from Brisbane, Australia, spent three months photocopying barcodes from 65c fried noodles and putting them on products to hoodwink the self-scanner.
