Muslim group member used racist slur ‘Oreo’ to describe Government’s Anti-Extremism Tsar
Channel 4’s Dispatches revealed the Muslim Engagement and Development (MEND) official insulted Government adviser Sara Khan
A SENIOR member of a Muslim group used the racist slur “Oreo” to describe an Anti-Extremism Tsar, a probe found.
Channel 4’s Dispatches revealed the Muslim Engagement and Development (MEND) official insulted Government adviser Sara Khan.
The Oreo jibe is seen as racist because it likens targets to the US biscuit — which is black on the outside but white inside.
It was today claimed the unnamed MEND member had since accepted it was wrong. But Fiyaz Mughal, of the Faith Matters group, said: “For me that translates as being racist.”
MEND, an anti-Islamophobia group supported by Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn in November, insists its members are not extremists.
But the Home Office has described it as being “associated” with “overt extremist elements”.
