LABOUR MPs who attended the protest calling for Jeremy Corbyn to do more to tackle anti-Semitism have been sent sickening abuse and targeted for deselection.

Supporters of the party leader claimed David Lammy had “stabbed them in the back” by attending the demonstration outside Parliament on Monday.

Meanwhile Wes Streeting was told to “kill himself” for showing his support for the “Enough is Enough” event alongside Jewish leaders and Labour members.

He and fellow MP John Mann, who also attended the protest, have written to the Labour boss to highlight the flood of the abuse they have received.

In the letter they state: “Those of us who have spoken out against anti-Semitism have received a torrent of abuse and threats of deselection.

“Our Jewish colleagues have in the last 24 hours alone, received social media abuse accusing them of running a smear campaign and have subjected them to further anti-Semitic remarks.”

The letter also warns there must be a "turning point for our party on anti-Semitism".

And it says Mr Corbyn should meet with Jewish colleagues and "send a message of solidarity" to all Jewish members demanding that social media abuse against them ends.

Mr Lammy, the MP for Tottemham, is being targeted for deselection with Facebook posts saying the event on Monday was not really about anti-Semitism at all.

The messages on the Tottenham Labour Party Members Only page suggest the protest was focused on Mr Corbyn’s leadership, saying he can be “triggered”, which would mean a ballot of local activists to remove him as their candidate.

It comes after Mr Corbyn is facing fresh criticism over his failure to tackle hostility to Jews following a report the party has a backlog of 74 cases that are still to be dealt with.

In response the Labour mayor of London Sadiq Khan has called for the party to do "much more" to tackle anti-Semitism in the party as he told of his anger over the problem.

Mr Khan said he was "angry" that friends of his who are Jewish felt they did not have a home in the party and the issue had left him "heartbroken".
