Prince Philip waves to wellwishers as he leaves hospital following hip replacement op – just four weeks before royal wedding
Duke of Edinburgh waves as he is driven away from central London hospital today
SMILING Prince Philip waves to well-wishers as he leaves hospital following a successful hip replacement op.
He was pictured being driven away from the King Edward VII hospital in central London.
He now has four weeks to get back to full fitness before grandson Prince Harry's wedding.
The 19 May ceremony will take place at Windsor Castle — where politicians including Theresa May have been snubbed.
Buckingham Palace said Philip, 96, will continue his recovery at Windsor.
A statement added: "His Royal Highness would like to convey his appreciation for the messages of good wishes he has received."
The Queen also gave an update, telling a well-wisher in Windsor "he said he's getting on very well" when asked about Philip's recovery.
The Duke will have already begun his rehabilitation and will be moving with the aid of a stick or crutches.
Weeks of aftercare are expected as he learns to walk again on his new hip.
On Thursday he was visited by his daughter, the Princess Royal, who said he was "on good form".
Anne, whose visit lasted around 50 minutes, is believed to be the first and only Royal to visit Philip in the central London hospital.
For about a month before the operation the Duke had complained about trouble with his hips.
Medics have said patients are usually back to their normal lifestyle and free from pain within a few weeks of a hip op.
The Queen Mother underwent two successful hip replacements in the 1990s.
The first was a planned procedure when aged 95 but she needed an emergency operation two years later following a fall.
