Who is Charlie Elphicke?

Charlie Elphicke was the Tory MP for Dover and Deal until he was suspended in November 2017.

In December 2018, he had the whip reinstated but in July 2019, the whip was withdrawn again after he was charged by the Crown Prosecution Service.

He did not stand for re-election in the 2019 general election.

Elphicke was first elected as the Conservative Member of Parliament for Dover at the 2010 general election – Dover was reportedly the safest of Labour’s seven seats in Kent.

He became a Government whip, a Lord Commissioner (Lord of the Treasury) following the 2015 general election.

However, he stood down in July 2016 when Theresa May replaced David Cameron as Prime Minister.

Elphicke was educated at Felsted School in Essex and Cambridge Centre for Sixth-form Studies (CCSS) before studying law at the University of Nottingham.

Prior to entering parliament, he was a partner at the law firm Reed Smith and later at Hunton & Williams.

Elphicke also had experience working in the pharmaceutical research industry and running a small business.

His first foray into politics saw him elected to London Borough Council of Lambeth in 1994, representing Gipsy Hill, replacing Labour leader of Lambeth Council, Stephen Whaley.

How long has Charlie Elphicke been sentenced for?

Charlie Elphicke faced one count of sexual assault in 2007, and two further counts against a second woman in 2016.

His wife left him after he was found guilty of groping the breasts of younger women after a three-week trial in July at Southwark Crown Court.

Today Elphicke appeared wearing a dark blue-grey suit and an open-neck light blue shirt, and gave no reaction as he was jailed and led from the dock.

In her sentencing remarks Mrs Justice Whipple told him: “This was a campaign of harassment, it required planning to get her alone with you.

“Both women described similar and shocking allegations on them. You’re a sexual predator who used your success and respectability as a cover.”

Elphicke was jailed for 14 months for the first sexual assault, 10 months for the second which will run consecutively, and 10 months for the third which will run concurrently – making two years in total.

His team revealed he has already applied to appeal the conviction, with his ex-wife backing his bid.

Who is Charlie Elphicke’s wife Natalie?

Elphicke lives in London with his wife Natalie, their two children and their dog, Star.

Natalie Ross is the current MP for Dover & Deal.

In December 2019, she was elected to be the first female MP for the Dover & Deal constituency.
