A MAN has died after being thrown off a theme park ride which malfunctioned at a Chinese amusement park
The victim, reported to be 23 years old, fell out of the 360-degree Flying Eagle ride after his safety belt
unexpectedly opened.
Shocked park-goers can be heard screaming "jump, jump" after seeing the man struggling to hold on
to his seat, according to a video released by a Chinese TV station.
The man suffered fatal head injuries, and was pronounced dead shortly after being taken to hospital.
The accident occurred at the popular Xihu Park, in the city of Xuchang, in central China's Henan Province, according to local Minsheng Channel.
The Xuchang City Safety Monitoring Bureau said the accident had been caused by a malfunction of the ride after an initial investigation had taken place.
The Flying Eagle ride is comprised of two swinging arms, each with eight seats and can spin 360 degrees, according to Henan’s Dahe Daily.
The seats are roughly 65ft from the ground when the arm reaches its highest point. It is unclear at
which point the victim fell.
A manager at the Xihu Park told Dahe Daily that most of the facilities at the park are run by
individual businessmen who rent spaces at the park.
The park reportedly has 20 big rides, and each operator pays the park 50,000 yuan (£5,671) per year
to run their business.
The Flying Eagle has been shut following the fatal accident, and the Xuchang City Safety Monitoring
Bureau has demanded that all park facilities undergo safety checks.
The police have started an investigation.
