Piers has made his call on the basis that American led pressure on North Korea has forced the two nations into talks.

Ahead of the historic peace summit between the two countries Trump announced on Twitter that he believed his efforts were the cause of the talks and discounted the efforts of experts.

He wrote: "With all of the failed 'experts' weighing in, does anybody really believe that talks and dialogue would be going on between North and South Korea right now if I wasn't firm, strong and willing to commit our total 'might' against the North. Fools, but talks are a good thing!"

The claims have been backed up by South Korean President Moon Jae-in who announced publicly that the USA deserved credit for the talks.

North Korea leader Kim Jong-un meets South Korea's Moon Jae-in for summit to discuss denuclearisation and peace in the Korean peninsula

He stated: "It could be a resulting work of the US-led sanctions and pressure."

South Korea's foreign minister has also credited Trump as being instrumental in the talks coming together.

Kang Kyung-wha told : ""Clearly, credit goes to President Trump. He's been determined to come to grips with this from day one."

On hearing the news of the successful summit Trump posted: "KOREAN WAR TO END! The United States, and all of its GREAT people, should be very proud of what is now taking place in Korea!"

Trump credits the US sanctions on trade with North Korea and his willingness to take military action against the nation for the talks taking place.

However, United Nations sanctions have been in place since 2006 and recently it appeared that China had decided to enforce them.

The Chinese account 90 per cent of North Korean trade and China imposing the sanctions is thought to have hit Kim Jong-un and his country hard, pushing the dictator into talks with South Korea.

The historic summit has seen the two leaders agree to seek an agreement to establish "permanent" and "solid" peace on the peninsula.

The move follows the pair being on the brink of war just a few months ago and now their join declaration includes promises to cease "hostile acts" and turn their fortified boarder into a "peace zone".

Kim crossed the boarder into the South holding the hand of his former military rival and is the first North Korean leader to cross the boarder in 65 years.

It is hoped the talks will end decades of military posturing between the two.

Piers' praise of Trump follows their interview earlier this year when the TV personality was accused of going soft on the controversial president.

The TV personality has even credited Trump with his success, once saying in an interview on CNN "I wouldn't be here without you".

The pair first met back in 2006 on Trump's show Celebrity Apprentice, during which Piers flattered Trump according to the .
