YouTube must get a grip on its dangerous and vile content — it simply cannot continue
Vile YouTube
YOUTUBE needs to get a grip of the dangerous material on its site.
The Sun today reveals that the web giant hosts tutorials for DIY surgery — including abortions and circumcision.
Whether it is half-naked children, IS terror, or neo-Nazi propaganda, the Google-owned site has repeatedly shown a blatant disregard for what is on its platform.
How much longer can the Silicon Valley hippies be allowed to brazenly shirk their corporate responsibility? They can’t just shrug their shoulders and say: “Not much we can do, guv.”
Imagine what would happen if newspapers and TV broadcasters decided to make a quick bob or two by allowing this type of material to appear in print, online or on our television screens. People would rightly be outraged.
The company argues that it is a free speech platform, not a publisher. Codswallop. YouTube should face vast fines, sanctions and even criminal action if it does not act. It should invest in an army of people monitoring the site for dangerous material.
Only acting after offensive material has been brought to its attention is simply not good enough.
This online anarchy cannot continue.
Alfie’s legacy
THE distressing case of Alfie Evans touched hearts around the world.
It has also sparked serious questions over the end-of-life care for tots.
His parents won’t be the last to turn to the courts to resolve such a dispute.
Now, Oxford University professor Dominic Wilkinson has suggested mediation panels, with an independent individual acting as a go-between for parents and hospitals. This seems a sensible idea.
The brilliant unsung NHS heroes who treated Alfie are back working to make sure other desperately ill youngsters get the best care possible. We salute them.
Rest in peace, Alfie.
Take care, Ant
IT is great to see Ant McPartlin looking better.
We hope to see him back on our screens soon. But his long-term health must be his main priority.
He should take his time to recuperate fully.
And his beloved hound Hurley will surely appreciate all the extra walks.
Game pain
MANY parents will have noticed youngsters locked away for hours playing the latest must-have game Fortnite.
You might think having them out of your hair is good.
