Donald Trump compares London to ‘war zone’ saying stabbing attacks mean ‘prestigious hospital’ is like a military zone

DONALD Trump has described London as "like a war zone" following a spate of stabbings in the English capital.
The US President described the situation in London as "knives, knives, knives" as he gave a steely defence of the Second Amendment - guaranteeing citizens the right to bear arms - at the NRA meeting in Dallas, Texas.

Describing an unnamed hospital in the British capital he told the crowd: "A once very prestigious hospital right in the middle is like a war zone for horrible stabbing wounds.
"They don’t have guns -- they have knives. They say it’s as bad as a military war zone hospital. Knives, knives, knives."
He didn't specify which London hospital he was referring too but it has been speculated that he could be talking about St Bart's in the east of the city.
Last month an article appeared on the Breitbart website, which Trump is known to be a reader of, quoting a doctor who worked there.

It was based on comments made on Radio 4's Today programme by Dr Martin Griffiths, lead surgeon at Barts Health NHS Trust, making a comparison to Camp Bastion in Afghanistan.
He told the Today programme: "Some of my military colleagues have described their practice here as similar to being at Bastion."
At least 36 people have been fatally stabbed - and 62 overall killed - in London since the beginning of the year.
The capital has seen 12,980 knife crimes committed in the capital during 2017 up 2,452 on the year before.

Four teenagers were stabbed to death in London on New Year's Eve alone, and 22 were killed in March - meaning the capital now has a higher murder rate than New York
The Big Apple, where handguns are legal, had 21 killings in comparison.
Last year, Trump was condemned by politicians across Britain for retweeting the far-right group Britain first.
He later tweeted an attack on Prime Minister Theresa May and Britain's response, saying: "Don’t focus on me, focus on the destructive Radical Islamic Terrorism that is taking place within the United Kingdom. We are doing just fine!"
The Donald continued telling attendees that they have an administration in Washington that is "fighting to protect your Second Amendment, and we will protect your Second Amendment."

He pledged that gun rights "will never, ever be under siege as long as I'm your president."
More than 70,000 NRA members are expected to attend the event which is also drawing protests.
Trump's Republicans are fighting to maintain their majority control of Congress in November's midterm elections.
