Paramedics battle in vain to save man, 20, knifed to death in broad daylight attack in Luton

Police have launched a murder investigation after the man was knifed on Sunday afternoon

A 20-YEAR-OLD man has been stabbed to death in broad daylight in Luton.

Emergency services were called to Bishopscote Road at around 4.40pm on Sunday afternoon to reports that a man had suffered serious injuries, Bedfordshire Police said.

Police have launched a murder investigation after the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detective Chief Inspector Phil Moss, senior investigating officer, said: "This is clearly a shocking incident where a man has been fatally wounded in a public place in broad daylight.

"The community will be understandably concerned and I'd like to reassure people we are taking this matter extremely seriously and have increased patrols in the area.

"The area was fairly busy at the time so I would urge anyone who saw what happened or has any information which could help our investigation to get in touch immediately."

The tragedy comes just over a day after 17-year-old Rhyhiem Ainsworth Barton was shot dead in Camberwell, South London, amid an explosion of violence in the capital over the Bank Holiday weekend.

In London alone, the shocking tally of fatal shooting or stabbing victims in London has been brought to 62 this year.
