Who is David Miliband?

David Miliband, 52, is a Labour party politician and current President of the International Rescue Committee.

He was born in London on July 15, 1965, to left wing political activists Ralph Miliband and Marion Kozak.

After high school he attended Oxford University before doing a masters at MIT in Massachusetts.

He became a political analyst before becoming Tony Blair's head of policy in 1994.

Miliband remained in that role until 2001 when he was elected as Labour MP for South Shields before becoming environment secretary in 2006 for a little over a year.

In 2007 he was made Foreign Secretary, a post he held until Labour lost the General Election in 2010.

Following the election defeat he had an ill fated clash with his younger brother, Ed, for the leadership of the party.

What is his salary?

In 2013 he resigned as an MP to become head of the International Rescue Committee (IRC) in New York City.

The IRC is a global humanitarian aid non-governmental organisation that was founded in 1933 at the request of Albert Einstein.

He is paid £300,000-a-year for the role at the committee which focuses mainly on health, education, economic well-being, power, and safety.

Who is his wife Louise Shackleton?

Miliband married violinist Louise Shackleton in 1998.

Shackleton has formerly performed with the London Symphony orchestra.

The couple met on a flight from London to Rome in 1995 and married three years later.

David and Louise have two adopted sons from the United States.

Could David Miliband return to UK politics?

Miliband has said he will join forces with Lib Dem Nick Clegg and Tory Nicky Morgan to stop a "Hard Brexit".

The trio of Remainers shares a platform in Essex on May 14, 2018, and urged MPs to vote down Theresa May’s Brexit deal with Brussels if it risks damaging the UK economy.

Miliband said: "Membership of the EEA (European Economic Area), as what I would call a safe harbour for Britain after Brexit, is on the table for every MP and party leader."

The three politicians wrote in the Mail on Sunday: “A hard Brexit won’t create global Britain.

“It is merely a path to a fantasy island of our own where we will have reduced access to our largest markets and a diminished standing in the world.”
