Windsor decked out in Union flags as armed cops scour area and world’s media arrives ahead of Royal Wedding
Union flags, security and TV crews are all out in force already as Royal Wedding fever starts to take hold on the Berkshire town
WINDSOR has already caught Royal Wedding fever as streets and shops are already decked out with Union flags.
More than 100,000 people are expected to line the route this Saturday as Meghan Markle and Prince Harry tie the knot in what will almost certainly be the wedding of the year.
Along with well-wishers cheering the couple on there will be around 79 international TV networks descending on Windsor from as far afield as Australia and New Zealand and Japan.
With the bride being American and who also lived in Toronto for a while, there is particular interest on the other side of the pond with 46 US broadcast affiliates covering the fairytale wedding.
Former royal butler Paul Burrell was interviewed for Australian TV programme A Current Affair by presenter Laura Turner, as they rode together on a horse and carriage on Harry and Meghan's processional route.
E! will be among those broadcasting live, declaring as it promoted its coverage: "When a Californian girl marries a prince we go big, like, five hours of live coverage big."
Security has already been ramped-up with security barriers are being put in place and an elaborate police protection plan, with a perimeter in force around the castle grounds, and a no-fly zone to keep the airspace clear.
Police are using an automatic license plate recognition system to flag any known suspicious vehicles. Many roads into the town will be blocked off to reduce the chances of a vehicle attack on the huge crowds expected.
But royal fans in Meghan's hometown of Los Angeles will have to be up in the early hours to watch the service, which begins at noon UK time - 4am Pacific Daylight Time on the west coast of America.
The Good Morning America show urged its followers on Twitter: "Set some early alarms and get your tea ready, people!"
ABC News and GMA will have live coverage from Windsor from 5am Eastern Time - 10am UK time.
More than 5,000 UK and international media and support staff have been accredited across Windsor for the day.
Hundreds of photographers will be working in the town, in addition to the 160 housed across 14 official photography positions.
Seven individual TV studios will be in operation and two purpose built international media compounds are being constructed along the Long Walk and in Home Park, demonstrating the scale of the event.
