CYBER-SECURITY pioneer John McAfee claims he fears for his life and is now in hiding from the US Government.

McAfee, the creator of the anti-virus software that bears his name, has previously gone on the run having fled authorities investigating a killing in Belize in 2012.

Now he claims he has gone "underground" alongside armed guards due to issues with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

He told : "We are in a five vehicle motorcade. All vehicles driven by ex-military special forces and filled to the brim with heavily-armed security personnel.

"I purposely and publicly committed a felony this morning to call the SEC out. I'm mad as hell and I'm not taking any more s*** from corrupt-to-the-core government agencies."

McAfee was served with a subpoena by the SEC in 2016, reported to be related to his involvement in cyber-currencies.

In a video recently posted on his Twitter account, he declares: "The SEC was never intended to have this power, please God America, wake up and see what has happened.

"The SEC is in charge of our entire industry, our companies, our manufacturing, our distribution, our creativity, our entrepreneurship.

"When it was created, in the wisdom of the creators, it had only civil powers. If it got p****d off at you, it could sue you, end of story.

"Now, with the cooperation of the justice department, the SEC can get involved, or bring people in who can punish you beyond a civil suit.

"The SEC owns America, please God, wake up people. And if you think that an agency of the US government would not stoop to assassination, kidnapping, threats, then what are you smoking?"

He also shared images appearing to show him wearing body armour alongside members of a security team, as well as an image showing scores of external security cameras in operation.

McAfee, who was born in Sling, Gloucestershire, was one of the engineers of California’s Silicon Valley during the 1980s electronics boom.

In 1987, he founded his famous McAfee anti-virus software company. Thanks to his policy of giving away the product for free and charging for customer support, it became an instant hit.

He sold his stake in 1994, netting around £60million.

The money funded an opulent playboy lifestyle which included buying homes in Hawaii, Arizona, Colorado and New Mexico, as well as indulging his hobby of aerotrekking — flying unlicensed microlight aircraft at low altitude.

McAfee later moved to Belize where he established a biotechnology research facility, but ran in trouble with local cops.

His facility was first raided on the suspicion he was producing methamphetamine, though these charges were quickly dropped.

He was then hunted through Central America after a neighbour whom he had argued with was found dead. He then fled, sparking a spectacular international manhunt throughout Central America.

Later arrested in Guatemala, he spent a week in a local jail before flying back to the US. Belize cops still insist he is a "person of interest" in his neighbour's death, but he denies any involvement and accuses local authorities of corruption.
