THREE cheers for Prince Charles. Walking Meghan to the altar today is some much-needed good news.
After the week’s furore, it’s a touch of dignity which was sadly lacking.
Having our future king on Meghan’s arm sends a signal that she is at the heart of the Royal Family.
I am sure Meghan will feel much more comfortable with the Prince of Wales beside her than her beleaguered father Thomas, sad though it is.
Charles is, quite literally, a safe pair of hands.
When he married Diana in 1981, she was not sure whether her father Earl Spencer would be able to give her away because he had just suffered a stroke.
I remember her saying later that she was holding him rather than the other way round.
When Prince Philip led the Queen's sister Margaret to the altar in 1960, she was so nervous the duke cracked jokes.
If a born royal was a bundle of nerves, poor Meghan is going to be terrified, I don’t care how good an actress she is.

Charles has always wanted to walk a daughter down the aisle, so he gets his wish.
I would think he was waiting in the wings if required.

I am certain the Royal Family would have been happy if Meghan and her mum had decided to walk together.
But it would be far too daunting for Doria, with millions watching.
And for Prince Harry, this is a way of showing the world the deep affection he and his father have for each other.
