Royal Wedding anniversary – Top seven moments to remember when Prince Harry married Meghan Markle
Prince Harry's marriage to Meghan Markle on May 19, 2018, was a fabulous event from start to finish, but we've picked out top seven moments from the Royal Wedding
FROM caring Prince Harry telling his stunning bride “I’m so lucky”, to Meghan Markle’s stunning dress, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s wedding was a spectacular event.
If anyone can pull out all the stops for the big occasions, the Brits can, but here are our top seven moments from the Royal Wedding.
The dress
There was a lot of speculation about Meghan Markle’s wedding dress before her marriage to Prince Harry in Windsor last May.
She stunned onlookers upon arriving in a stunning bespoke gown by Givenchy, created by British designer Clare Waight Keller.
The former Suits actress chose to work with Clare “for her timeless and elegant aesthetic, impeccable tailoring, and relaxed demeanour”.
Meghan wanted to “highlight the success of a leading British talent who has now served as the creative head of three globally influential fashion houses – Pringle of Scotland, Chloé, and now Givenchy”.
Meghan and Clare worked closely together on the design, which featured a graphic open bateau neckline that gracefully framed the shoulders while emphasising Meghan’s slender waist.
Caring groom
Prince Harry told his stunning bride: “You look amazing, I’m so lucky, I love you,” as she joined him at the altar.
The caring groom also asked Meghan Markle: “Are you OK?” as their ceremony got underway at Windsor Castle on May 19, 2018.
The kiss
It was all sealed with a kiss.
The newly-married couple stood in front of Windsor’s St George’s chapel having just got married and sealed the union with a tender kiss in front of the crowds.
One lip reader says Ms Markle discreetly asked her new husband: “Do we kiss?”
To which the prince quietly replied: “Yeah”.
Bishop Michael Curry
The preacher was invited by Meghan Markle and he was the unexpected star of the show with an unorthodox and rather theatrical sermon.
Michael had the audience in the chapel and those watching at home as he rhapsodised on the power of love – complete with wild gesticulations and referring to the congregation as “brothers and sisters”.
Rev Curry started by quoting Martin Luther King Jr and went on to argue that the power of love was enough to bring the world together, in a meandering speech that referenced slavery and also praised the discovery of fire for making texting possible.
Realising he had gone on for too long, carried away by the moment, he said: “We gotta get you all married!”
Princess Charlotte
Gorgeous Princess Charlotte may have been channelling her uncle’s naughty side on the big day as she cheekily stuck her tongue out to snappers at the Royal Wedding.
The cheeky three-year-old princess made the gesture as she arrived in a vintage Rolls Royce at St George’s Chapel to perform her duties as a bridesmaid.
But the young royal was well-mannered throughout the rest of the wedding, and rounded things off with a vigorous royal wave after the end of the service.
In contrast, Prince George was more wary of the limelight and hid behind dad William’s leg.
Memories of Diana
Not really just one, single moment but several.
The newly-weds ensured that the essence of Diana was part of their wedding day through other subtle touches, making her part of the ceremony 21 years after her death.
Meghan carried a bouquet with Diana’s beloved forget-me-nots, with the same flowers making up hairbands worn by bridesmaids.
The music chosen also reflected Harry’s attachment to his mother, with the prince welling up during the final hymn – Guide Me O Thou Great Redeemer – also sung at Diana’s funeral.
And in another touching tribute to Princess Diana, already having forget-me-nots in her bouquet, Meghan wore her emerald-cut aquamarine ring.
The huge sparkler could be seen on Meghan’s right hand as she waved to crowds in the open top Jag.
The carriage procession
Undoubtedly the fairytale element of the whole day and a chance for royal fans to get a good look at the bride and groom.
A statement from the Palace said: “Prince Harry and Ms. Markle are very much looking forward to this part of the day.
“It will be their chance to express their gratitude for the goodwill and warm wishes they have received from all quarters in the months since their engagement.”
The couple rode in the Ascot Landau giving well-wishers a good view.
And the couple sneaked in a second smooch during the ride.
