Ex-banker who helped defeat ISIS in Raqqa after Manchester attack says ‘justice has been served’

AN ex-banker who fought ISIS monsters says that justice has been done for the victims of the Manchester terror attack.

Macer Gifford, 30, was battling the jihadis with the Christian fighters of the Syriac Military Council (MFS) but once he saw that 22 people had died in the attack, he says he went right to the heart of the Islamic State machine in Raqqa to do battle.

Macer, a former Tory councillor from Cambridge, went to fight ISIS monsters in Syria in 2015.

He fought as a sniper and a medic, helping to liberate the city of Raqqa – ISIS’s now-fallen self-styled terror capital.

Writing on Twitter today, as Britain marks the one-year anniversary of the atrocity, he said: "After the Manchester Arena attacks I went straight to Raqqa to fight ISIS.

"After four months of heavy fighting I left the city feeling like justice had been served.

"Manchester was more united than ever and Raqqa had been liberated.

"Peace and justice 1 - ISIS nil #ManchesterTogether."

Twenty two people lost their lives when Salman Abedi detonated a home-made device at the end of the Manchester Arena concert.

Heartfelt messages of support have been left throughout Manchester city centre today.

Well-wishers have begun to lay floral bouquets and cards in St Ann's Square, which became a focal point for mourners last years following the May 22 atrocity at the Manchester Arena.

Thousands of messages of support on cardboard tags have been attached by members of the public to 28 Japanese maple trees which form the Trees of Hope trail from the square to Victoria rail and tram station.

Among the notes were messages which read: "Thinking of you all, stay strong xxx", "Manchester we stand together. Forever in our hearts", and: "As a clever bishop said 'there is power in love'".
