Released rapists carry out five sex attacks a month as re-offending is at worst rate for ten years
The revelation comes after the Parole Board wrongly ordered the release of black cab rapist John Worboys
RAPISTS freed from jail carried out five new sex attacks a month in 2016, figures reveal.
A total of 61 rapists struck again — the highest number in a decade.
Thirty of those convicted of rape in 2016 had previously been jailed for two or more attacks, while the remaining 31 had committed one in the past.
A further 179 were found to have a more minor sex offence on their criminal record.
The revelation comes after the Parole Board wrongly ordered the release of black cab rapist John Worboys — one of the UK’s worst sex attackers. And it follows news of a 29 per cent rise in rapes recorded by police forces across England and Wales in 2017.
David Spencer, of the Centre for Crime Prevention, last night called the figures a “damning indictment of successive Governments’ policies towards the most serious offenders”.

He said putting convicted rapists and other violent sex offenders back on the streets to keep prison numbers down is a “trend that has to stop”.
The Ministry of Justice said: “Under this Government, more sex offenders are being convicted and spending longer behind bars.
“All sex offenders face tough restrictions on release, and anyone who commits a further offence can be brought straight back to prison.”
