Europhile ministers need to twig it — Trump, Brexit and immigration WILL bring down the EU
Cabinet Remainers want to strong-arm Theresa May into a deal that would tie us to the customs union or the single market — they're short-sighted
CABINET Remainers attempting to strong-arm Theresa May into a Brexit surrender need to grow a spine.
They also need to recognise the sands shifting under the EU’s feet.
Too many cower at every intimidatory word from Brussels — and regurgitate every economic scare story if it feeds their europhile prejudices.
The PM has endlessly compromised already. We fear she is now on the brink of a fatal error, tying us to a customs union or the single market, even ceding total control over immigration.
Remainers insist it’s a necessity to make a deal. That is short-sighted short-termism. It is not pragmatic to agree a solution repugnant to the Leave majority. The clamour for Brexit to be done properly would be immediate and overwhelming.
The EU is in trouble. Germany has a crisis far more existential than its World Cup exit. Its car industry is staring down the barrel of Trump’s tariffs and Brexit killing its vital UK sales.
Mass discontent on immigration could bring the Brussels project to its knees.
EU leaders talk tough, but it is bluster. The Cabinet must not fall for it. They should instead have faith in our economy, boosted only yesterday by the monster deal to build Aussie warships.
Mrs May must stand up both to Brussels and its Cabinet cheerleaders.
Her place in history will rest on whether she had the guts to ignore those siren voices luring her on to the rocks of a Brexit that’s meaningless.
Back spooks
WHAT did we gain by MPs blowing five years probing what MI5 and MI6 knew of the US torture of terror suspects back in 2001?
Their report admits our spooks were directly involved only twice.
Yes, torture is barbaric. But the CIA firmly believes it saved lives.
Would those people wringing their hands over it prefer to have risked thousands more being massacred by al-Qaeda?

Jog a memory
HOW is it credible for police to give up hunting the Putney Bridge jogger who almost shoved a woman to her death?
He was caught on CCTV clear enough to be identified by workmates, friends or relatives. It is beyond belief, given the level of surveillance in our capital, that there is simply no way of tracing him.
Anti-Tory campaigners haven’t wasted the chance to claim cops don’t have the manpower. Cobblers. They had enough to investigate and clear 50 suspects. They must not give up. The appeals should go on.
Someone, somewhere knows this cowardly and remorseless scumbag. And his next random assault could kill.
