Jeremy Corbyn risks fury after appointing MP previously suspended for anti-Semitic slurs to frontbench
JEREMY Corbyn has sparked fury by appointing an MP previously suspended over anti-Semitic slurs to his frontbench.
In a move that reopened Labour's damaging anti-Semitism row, Nazanin Shah was named Shadow Minister for Women and Equalities.
Naz Shah was suspended from the Labour party in 2016 after backing calls for Israelis to be relocated to America.
It sparked an explosive anti-Semitism crisis in the Labour party that has lasted more than two years.
It was defending Ms Shah that landed Ken Livingstone in trouble after claiming Hitler supported Zionism.
A Labour source said: “Naz Shah’s unreserved apology demonstrated a full understanding of why her comment was anti-Semitic, and it was welcomed by Jewish groups. She has since worked very closely with Jewish community organisations on educating and raising awareness about antisemitism, and she is held up by many as an example of what people should do if they have made an anti-Semitic comment.”
The Sun says
LABOUR appointing Naz Shah as Shadow Equalities Minister is the kind of thing that leaves satire on life support.
Having changed the definition of anti-Semitism just last week in order to ensure that party members have a bit of racist wiggle-room, they’ve now appointed a woman who was previously suspended for anti-Semitic tweets.
These people aren’t fit for government.
If Tory infighting puts them there, God help us.
