DONALD Trump has brushed off fears of widespread protests as he prepares to fly to Britain.

The US President didn't seem fussed by the threats of tens of thousands of people who are set to descend on the capital and other cities during his four-day trip.

Speaking to reporters at a Nato press conference in Brussels he insisted: "I think it's fine. I think they like me a lot in the UK.

"I think they agree with me on immigration. I am very strong on immigration."

Thouands are people are set to take to the streets protesting the US President's trip in the next few days - with huge demonstrations planned in London. He will largely stay out of London to try and avoid them.

That will include a huge 6ft orange blimp of the President in a nappy, which will fly over the capital during the trip.

Trump's Europe visit so far:

  • Before he left he declared the UK was in "turmoil", gave luke-warm support for Theresa May, and said he hoped to meet his "friend" Boris Johnson in Britain
  • At an explosive Nato summit in Brussels President Trump threatened to pull out of Nato, but claimed victory when allies vowed to up their defence spending
  • Trump slammed Mrs May's Chequers Brexit plan, saying it might not be what the people voted for
  • Ministers prepare to unveil their Brexit white paper later today, as Tory MPs remain unhappy with it
  • President Trump flies in the UK this afternoon, before a dinner at Churchill's birthplace, Blenheim Palace

A huge security operation is to be in place for Mr Trump's visit - with a £30million ring of steel guarding Trump whereever he goes.

He will be met from Air Force One by his private armoured limousine, dubbed "The Beast", which travels everywhere with him.

Specifically-designed armoured vehicles, rooftop snipers, undercover Secret Service agents and elite SAS soldiers are already at Prestwick Airport.

The £1.2million Cadillac weighs eight tonnes, is bulletproof and able to survive a direct rocket or chemical warfare attack.

At the same press conference today Mr Trump went on to attack Mrs May's Brexit plan.

On immigration, he said: "I think that's why Brexit happened."

"Well Brexit is, I’ve been reading a lot about Brexit over the last couple of days.

"And it seems to be turning a little bit differently, where they’re getting at least partially involved back with the European Union."

He said he would be flying into a "hotspot" after the PM's Brexit crisis saw David Davis and Boris Johnson quit at the start of the week.

"I imagine that's what they'll do but it seems they're taking a different route.

“You know when you use the term ‘hard Brexit’ that’s what I assume that you mean.

“The people voted to break it up so I would imagine that what they’ll do, but maybe they’re taking a little bit of a different route.

“So, I don’t know if that’s what they voted for.”

"I'd like to see them be able to work it out so it could go quickly," he said.

He added: “I just want the people to be happy, they’re great people.”

The US President will fly into London this afternoon, straight from an explosive Nato summit in Brussels.

And it comes just two days after he said the UK was "in turmoil" and that his meeting with President Putin afterwards in Russia could be the easiest of the week.

He also said it was "up to the people" whether the PM stayed in place.

The comments are a huge headache for Mrs May

Mr Trump will fly into London and will be met by Trade Secretary Liam Fox at the airport.

He will then go to the US ambassador's residence in London, before flying back to Blenheim Palace for a dinner with 150 top business leaders.

Tomorrow he will visit Chequers for talks with Theresa May, before meeting the Queen for tea at Windsor Castle.

Over the weekend he will fly up to Scotland, where he is expected to spend time at his Scottish golf course in Aryshire.

Would US President Donald Trump still consider pulling America out of Nato?
