Inside Roman Abramovich’s incredible new £30m London penthouse…the biggest clue yet the Chelsea chief doesn’t want to quit the UK

CHELSEA FC owner Roman Abramovich has completed the purchase of his £30million triplex penthouse overlooking Stamford Bridge - despite his visa problems.

The Russian tycoon faced delays in renewing his investor visa this year following worsening relations between London and Moscow in the wake of the poisoning of former Russian spy Sergei Skripal.

The 51-year-old is understood to have withdrawn his application for a UK visa and acquired an Israeli passport.

Israeli passport holders are allowed to enter Britain without a visa for short stays.

Mr Abramovich secured the penthouse several months ago, before his visa complications, The Times reported.

But it’s thought his architectural team and interior designers are now working on the apartment, indicating he doesn’t want to quit the UK altogether.

The billionaire’s triplex penthouse is on the 35-37th floors of the Chelsea Waterfront, a development of more than 700 homes that is dominated by Lots Road power station with its two iconic chimneys.

The entire development is not likely to be completed until 2021.

Apartments in the complex start at £2million and Mr Abramovich’s is by far the biggest.

It has floor-to-ceiling windows with 360-degree views up and down the Thames and directly over Stamford Bridge, where he recently halted a £1 billion renovation project because of his visa issues.

Lots Road was once the largest power station in the world and until it was decommissioned in 2002, it supplied power to the London Underground.

It’s now being converted into 200 apartments, with shops, cafes and restaurants at ground level.

As well as the penthouse, Mr Abramovich splashed out £85,000 each for parking spaces underground.

The Chelsea owner also owns a 15-bedroom mansion on Kensington Palace Gardens, Britain’s most expensive street.

He’s believed to have paid £90million for the property in 2011.
