TOP Eurocrat Jean-Claude Juncker is regularly seen drinking GIN at work, a bombshell report claims.

The European Commission president drinks glasses of spirits disguised as water, according to Brussels insiders.

And he allegedly leaves all the actual work to his deputy - a hardline civil servant who's nicknamed "The Monster".

French journalist Jean Quatremer has compiled a dossier of claims against Mr Juncker .

One ex-journalist told him: "When a bailiff brings him a glass of water at a council of ministers, we all know it's gin."

Mr Quatremer adds that Mr Juncker is said to be "a bit too fond of the bottle".

The Eurocrat is alleged to have handed over most of his responsibilities to Martin Selmayr, the European Commission's secretary-general.

Mr Selmayr's brutal work ethic and uncompromising stance have earned him the nickname of "The Monster".

Mr Quatremer says: "The deterioration of Juncker combined with the power of Selmayr indicates an unusual set-up with the President as the puppet.

"Pull back the gin-soaked curtain and we may find the real influence is wielded by Selmayr, an unelected and unaccountable Eurocrat.";

Mr Selmayr recently sparked a backlash when he publicly mocked England for losing to Croatia in the World Cup semi-final.

It's long been known in Brussels that Mr Juncker is a lover of fine wines.

But concerns about his drinking increased last week when he was seen stumbling around the Nato summit.
