Anti-terror cops arrest man, 43, on suspicion of preparing terrorist act
Suspect Ravi Mendis, who lives in the south London area, will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court tomorrow
ANTI-terror cops have arrested a man from south London on suspicion of plotting acts of terror.
Ravi Mendis was allegedly carrying an offensive weapon and making threats to kill before cops detained him on Friday.
Mendis, 43, was charged yesterday with a terrorism offence by officers from the Met's Counter Terrorism Command unit.
He is suspected of preparing an act of terror and has been charged under the Terrorism Act 2006.
Mendis, who lives in the south London area, will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court tomorrow.
The arrest comes after counter-terror chiefs warned Brits to prepare for attacks on holiday.
Tourists travelling overseas were urged to watch a safety video on the eve of schools breaking up and millions heading abroad.
Launching this year’s campaign, Chief Supt Nick Aldworth said: “The chances of being in a terrorist incident are low.
"But sadly we have seen atrocities in the UK and abroad, especially last year.
“So it is important everyone stays alert and knows what to do.”
