Gang boss Dario Antonio Usuga was enraged by media reports detailing how the six-year-old’s trained nose had discovered nine tons of the drug, costing the gang millions.

Officers from the South American country’s top anti-narcotics unit also proudly tweeted a picture of Sombra, saying she had become the “torment” of drug traffickers.

Police chief General Jorge Nieto said: “The fact they want to hurt Sombra and offer such a high reward for her capture or death shows the impact she’s had on their profits. She has personally been involved in the arrest of more than 200 people and has helped seize several tons of drugs.”

Police said they will now move  Sombra — Shadow in English — to Bogota airport, which is considered a safer environment. Security around her handlers will also be stepped up.

Usuga, 46, known by the alias Otoneil, has run the 3,000-strong Urabenos, or Gulf Clan, on his own since brother Juan was gunned down by police in 2012. His partner and cousin were also caught recently.

Urabenos is the largest and most violent of Colombia’s cartels and is backed by a private army of guerrilla fighters.

Earlier this month Colombian bigwigs got sniffy over The Sun’s front page headline “Go Kane” in honour of World Cup hero Harry Kane and their country’s best-known export.
