Who are Steve Jobs’ children, when did he marry Laurene Powell and when did the Apple co-founder die?
The tech entrepreneur died at his Palo Alto, California home in 2011 leaving behind his wife and four children
APPLE founder Steve Jobs was the father of four children – he had three daughters and one son.
He was married to Laurene Powell Jobs, the mother of three of his children, but was in a long-term relationship previously with Chrisann Brennan, the mother of his eldest child. We take a look at the tech entrepreneur’s family life.
Who are Steve Jobs’ kids?
Steve Jobs had three daughters named Lisa, Erin and Eve, and one son named Reed.
Lisa Brennan-Jobs is the eldest child, and the product of Jobs’ relationship with long-term girlfriend Chrisann Brennan.
Lisa was born on May 17, 1978 at a commune just outside Portland Oregon.
Her parents first met at Homestead High School in Cupertino, California in 1972 and went on to have an on-off five year relationship.
I977, when Brennan fell pregnant with Lisa, Jobs denied being the father.
He continued denying the child was his despite naming his computer project the “Apple Lisa” –an admission he made many years later.
The case of Lisa’s paternity was taken to court, with Jobs continuing to deny his child despite a DNA test proving he was the father.
He was ordered by the court to provide Brennan with $385 per month and to reimburse the state for the money she had received from welfare.
After Apple went public and Jobs became a multimillionaire, he increased the payment to $500 a month.
It was only after leaving Apple that he acknowledged his then 9-year-old daughter, attempting to make amends and even allowing her to take his surname.
According to Fortune magazine, he left Lisa a multimillion-dollar inheritance in his will.
Lisa is now a celebrated writer and journalist and has documented the odd relationship she had with her dad, who she describes as "mean and awkward".
Jobs’ first child from his married was his son Reed Jobs, born in 1991.
It is said that Reed was the child that brought Jobs’ the most joy.
He was apparently extremely distressed about his dad’s cancer diagnosis and went on to study oncology at Stanford University to know more about the deadly disease.
Not much is known about what Reed does today, but the 27-year-old is said to be a Democrat.
Erin Jobs’ is the tech mogul’s third child and the second child from his marriage.
She was born in 1995, and is described as quiet, reserved and introverted, and had an ‘emotionally distant’ relationship with her equally introverted father.
Erin is said to leave a very private life, and excels in architecture and design.
Jobs’ youngest child is Eve, born in 1998 – she has been described as a “firecracker” who know how to deal with her father.
Eve is an accomplished equestrian, and in March 2017, Eve was named in the Show Jumping Hall of Fame as "rider of the month".
She has also aced show jumping competitions all around the globe, including events in the Hamptons, Lexington, Kentucky, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
Eve was accepted into Stanford University, the school where her parents met and her older siblings also studied.
When did Steve Jobs marry Laurene Powell?
Steve Jobs married Laurene Powell in 1991, after the pair met at Stanford University.
In October 1989, Jobs gave a "View from the Top" lecture at Stanford Business School where Laurene was a new MBA student.
She snuck to the front of the lecture and started up a conversation with Jobs who was seated next to her.
They ended up having dinner together that night and a year and a half later on March 18, 1991, they married in a ceremony at the Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite National Park.
After Jobs’ death from pancreatic cancer, Laurene inherited the Steven P. Jobs Trust, which as of May 2013 had a 7.3 per cent stake in The Walt Disney Company, worth approximately $11.1 billion.
She was also handed 38.5 million shares of Apple Inc.
As of August 2018, Powell Jobs and her family are ranked 57th in the Forbes' annual list of the world's billionaires with a net worth of $21.4 billion.
The 54-year-old widow is named on the same list as the richest woman in tech.
When did the Apple co-founder die?
Jobs died at his Palo Alto, California, home around 3pm local time on October 5, 2011, due to complications from a relapse of his previously treated pancreatic cancer, which resulted in respiratory arrest.
He had lost consciousness the day before his passing and died with his wife, children, and sisters at his side.
His sister, Mona Simpson, described his death, saying: "Steve's final words, hours earlier, were monosyllables, repeated three times.
“Before embarking, he'd looked at his sister Patty, then for a long time at his children, then at his life's partner, Laurene, and then over their shoulders past them.
“Steve's final words were: 'Oh wow. Oh wow. Oh wow.'
“He then lost consciousness and died several hours later.”
A small private funeral was held on October 7, 2011, the details of which, out of respect for Jobs' family, have never been revealed.
