FOUR people including two cops were killed in a shooting in Canada yesterday.
Officers rushed to a suburban apartment complex after gunshots were heard at 7am local time.
They advised residents to stay in their homes with doors locked for almost four hours as a gun battle broke out.
The suspect was taken into custody at 11am with “serious injuries”, while a nearby hospital reported treating others who were wounded.
Police in the eastern city of Fredericton, New Brunswick, last night identified the two slain officers as Sarah Burns and Robb Costello. The civilians — a man and a woman — have not been named.
Witness Justin Mclean, who lives in the complex, said: “I just woke up and heard gunshots and I looked outside my window. There was basically three dead people lying there. It wasn’t a pretty sight.
“The cops were trying to put one of the officers into the vehicle so they could take him out to safety.”
David MacCoubrey, who also lives in the complex, said he heard about 20 shots and hid on his kitchen floor.
Canadian PM Justin Trudeau tweeted: “Awful news coming out of Fredericton.
“My heart goes out to everyone affected by this morning’s shooting.
Fredericton has a population of around 58,000 and is about 70 miles from the US state of Maine.
In 2014, a shooting in Moncton, New Brunswick, left three Royal Canadian Mounted Police officers dead and two wounded.
