JEREMY Corbyn sparked a new anti-Semitism row as a video emerged of him likening Israel’s West Bank actions to those of the Nazis.
He says in the clip: “The West Bank is under occupation of the very sort recognisable by many in Europe who suffered occupation during the Second World War.”
His 2013 outburst, at an event hosted by London-based Palestinian Return Centre, blasts Israel’s “endless roadblocks, imprisonment and irrational behaviour by the military and police”.
Jennifer Gerber, of Labour Friends of Israel, said: “We discovered he engaged in theories questioning Israel’s right to exist.
“Now it’s comparisons to Nazi occupation of Europe.”
His outburst appears to breach a global IHRA anti-Semitism code barring likening Israel to the Nazis.
Ms Gerber said his opposition to full adoption of the code “appears driven by his appalling statements”.
She adds: “The Labour party’s once proud record on fighting racism and the protection of British Jews from anti-Semitism is being sacrificed to protect Jeremy Corbyn’s reputation.”
Labour insisted he meant “occupations in wartime Europe, of which there are multiple examples”.
The Board of Deputies of British Jews also accused the Labour leader of refusing to face difficult questions about his response to the issue and hoping it would disappear.
Former Cabinet Minister Jim Murphy took out a full-page advertisement in a Jewish newspaper to attack Jeremy Corbyn’s “intellectually arrogant, emotionally inept and politically maladroit” approach to the party’s anti-Semitism crisis.
The Scottish Secretary under Gordon Brown and former Scottish Labour leader said he could “no longer remain passive while the current Labour leadership does so much damage to Labour’s relationship with British Jewry”.
Meanwhile, jokers put a sign on his fence calling his pad “HQ for Hamas, Hezbollah, the IRA and the Kremlin”.
