Boris Johnson urged to team up with David Davis and oust Theresa May THIS YEAR
BORIS Johnson is being urged to team up with David Davis and plot to oust Theresa May this year.
Allies of the ex-Brexit Secretary have urged the party to put him in the top job to take care of Brexit, to avoid a damaging leadership campaign.
There is growing speculation that Mr Johnson's controversial comments about the burka - which has seen him face an internal investigation - could spark a huge Tory civil war and potential leadership election.
Five cabinet ministers told the Sun on Sunday they backed Boris over the row, where he compared women wearing burkas to bank robbers and letterboxes.
He could face diversity training for the comments made in a newspaper column.
Today reports that a plot is in place to get rid of Mrs May as early as October.
Boris Johnson's is being urged to park his leadership ambitions until after Brexit is done and dustedBoris has been bombard with supportive messages from MPs since he quit over Brexit last month, his friends say.
One senior Tory predicted Mrs May could face a leadership challenge as early as next month, when MPs return from their summer break.
The source said: "The membership is massively behind Boris on this. If there weren’t enough Tory MPs ready to support no-confidence letters when we left Westminster last month, there probably will be now."
It requires 38 Tories to write a letter saying they have no confidence in her to trigger a ballot, but then half of the whole Parliamentary group have to vote to oust her to trigger a leadership battle.
He's being urged to park his ambitions to be leader for not and let Mr Davis take over until Brexit is done and dusted.
They say that he would be trusted enough by both Leavers and Remainers to get the job done, and honour the referendum.
One senior ex-Minister said last night: "Everyone knows Boris would romp home in any leadership poll where party members get to vote.
"The problem is that, with crucial Brexit talks this autumn, we can’t afford a full, three-month leadership contest.
"As ex-Brexit Secretary, David Davis is the only candidate who could be accepted by Tory MPs without the need for a full-scale contest."

Mr Davis is also in the process of writing his own book, the paper revealed.
But sources said that "Whitehall mandarins" are keeping back his ministerial diaries, claiming they are Government property.
