MODEL and TV presenter Katie Piper was left partially blinded with severe, permanent scarring after acid was thrown in her face in 2008.
The attack was carried out by Stefan Sylvestre, on the orders of a violent ex-boyfriend – both are currently serving life sentences in prison for the attack. We take a look at the foundation Katie established to help other acid attack and burns victims.
Who is Katie Piper?
Katie Piper is a television presenter and former model who was attacked with acid in 2008.
She underwent pioneering surgery to restore her face and vision and gave up her right to anonymity to raise awareness about burns victims.
The 35-year-old has appeared in a number of television documentaries, released an autobiography and writes regular columns in a number of weekly magazines.
Following her recovery, she established the Katie Piper Foundation.
What is the Katie Piper Foundation and how does it help burns victims?
The charity was established in 2009 and aims to deliver a high standard of intensive burns rehabilitation and scar management to victims across the UK.
The organisation helps people with burns and traumatic scars through recovery and beyond.
Services offered by the foundation include residential burn and rehabilitation centre access, hair transplant surgery and hair replacement systems.

Donations can be made via or via a page.
Both means of donation have the option of Gift Aid, meaning that if you are a UK taxpayer, registered charities will be able to reclaim tax made on your donation, effectively increasing the amount of money you are giving.
